I’ve always read that if you are going to splurge on makeup, foundation is one thing that is worth splurging on. At the same time, nobody is going to go out and grab a $30 bottle of foundation just to try it out. Since I don’t live near a MAC counter, I was happy to get a sample of the Face and Body Foundation in the shade N2 from The Body Needs for a little under $3, as there was a sale at the time.
My first impression of this foundation was “WOW, this is so watery!” It even crossed my mind that I had been conned and it was not actually MAC, but some cheap tinted moisturizer! Eventually I figured it out with a little bit of patience, and by scouring the rave reviews on Makeup Alley. I applied two light layers, letting the first layer dry first. I used a Sigma F80 brush to apply, then I stippled it in with an EcoTools kabuki.
A few notes about this foundation:
- It is very wet (because it is water based), so it is quite thin.
- It is not full coverage, but can be built to medium coverage.
- There’s no SPF.
- It photographs wonderfully.
Because the finish is dewy, I set this foundation with Maybelline Dream Matte powder, and used Urban Decay De-Slick spray to keep everything in place and combat any oil that might creep up on my T-zone (not really an issue now that it is cool outside). With those steps, the foundation lasted all day.
I do not have any major skin issues, and I cannot stand when a foundation is too heavy. If you want a foundation that is full coverage, this is definitely not the one for you, but if you’re like me and want something with lighter coverage just to even out your skin tone, this might be a good fit for you!
This foundation is also very affordable for the size at $33 for 4 ounces (120 ml). Most drugstore foundations are in the $8-$15 range for one ounce, which makes MAC Face and Body Foundation more affordable per ounce compared to foundations like Revlon Colorstay Whipped Foundation (which is $13 for .8 ounces). I still have a little bit left of my sample, but on my first try, I really liked this foundation!
