NARS Velvet Gloss Lip Pencil in New Lover

I am a pretty big fan of lip pencils. I love my NYX lip pencils and the NARS Velvet Gloss Pencil seems to be a high-end version, but with some slight differences. I received a trial size of this pencil in my Sephora It Kit bag of freebies!

New Lover is a cool pink shade infused with golden shimmer. This color is pretty much perfect for me and seems like it would be wearable on many different types of skin tones. I like it because it’s bright, but not too bright, and lets me add some color that is different from the many nude shades I have!

True to its name, it does leave a glossy finish. The shimmer is not chunky, so when it fades away, everything fades away equally, which I appreciate. The staying power was pretty impressive as well; after a good three hours I could still see some of it. While I don’t believe the NYX pencils are dupes for this pencil, I figured why not compare them since so many people have them? The NYX lip pencils come in a huge variety of shades, but do not last as long as the NARS pencil, but for a fraction of the price, do they really need to last as long? I wouldn’t expect them to last as long. The texture of the pencils are actually quite similar! Both are very soft and glide on nicely, with the NARS pencil winning when it comes to even application.

  • Soft
  • Easy application
  • Staying powder
  • Gorgeous color

  • Full-size is $24

The only con to this pencil is that the full size is $24, so it is a bit expensive. That said, would I purchase it at that price? Yes, because the quality is worth it in my humble opinion!

What do you think of these pencils?
