The beauty world is buzzing with the release of Urban Decay’s Naked Basics palette ($27), an all matte palette of neutrals. One of the biggest complaints about the Naked 1 and 2 palettes are that there aren’t enough matte shades, and this palette solves that problem!
There are six shades here, making each shade about $4.50, an absolute bargain for the quality! I have three other matte palettes: The Balm’s Meet Matte, Stila In the Know, and the Too Faced Matte Eye palette. My least favorite of the three is Meet Matte. Urban Decay’s has the best texture and is the softest of them all.
Venus has a slight bit of sheen; it’s not quite matte, but more satin. The shimmer is very, very slight though. This makes a great highlight.
Foxy is yellow-beige and matte.
Walk of Shame is a pinkish nude beige matte.
Naked 2 is a lovely grayish brown matte taupe and the color that attracted me to this palette the most!
Faint is a medium brown matte shade.
Crave is a deep dark black brown; to me it looks more brown than black. It kind of reminds me of NARS Coconut Grove.
Even though I have a couple of shades in this palette already, I am very happy with my purchase, especially since I had a 20% off coupon at Ulta! What I really love about this palette is how portable this is; it is the perfect size to travel with and it contains a large mirror! Today is my first day using this palette, but I like what it has done for my eyes. It definitely softened my look overall and just looks nice and natural.
- True to pan color
- Excellent pigmentation
- Easy to blend and apply
- Attractive packaging
- Big mirror
- Perfect size for travel
- Color selection is very fair; would benefit from a bigger range
- No brush
- Difficult to open
One thing about this palette is that the shades aren’t very versatile for a variety of skin colors. I don’t mind that it doesn’t include a brush since I had so many already. I do find this a little difficult to open, but that isn’t the end of the world.
Overall, I am very happy with this palette and see myself getting a lot of use from it!
