February 2013 Ipsy Bag Review

If you follow me on Twitter, you may know that January was my last month with the Glossybox subscription service. I did not review the last few boxes I received, partially because they arrived so late. This is understandable due to the holiday season; however, I received my January box…in February. It wasn’t even the first day of the month; it was nearly a week into February.  I have pretty much NO tolerance for lateness and have an even bigger problem with paying for something and not receiving it for nearly a month, especially when new subscribers are receiving their products right away. While I was happy with my subscription, bad customer service and lateness made me step away from them and join a more affordable beauty subscription service: Ipsy (formerly MyGlam).

Ipsy works like other beauty subscriptions: you pay a monthly fee ($10) and receive deluxe samples, and in some cases full sized products. Last year, I tried Birchbox for three months and did not feel like it was worth my $10, and after reading about some later months, it seems to have gone downhill even more. Like Birchbox and other subs, you can cancel your subscription at any time.

Each month Ipsy arrives in a little makeup bag that varies each month. This month’s theme was “Red Carpet Ready”, so the bag is shiny black with a silky red interior. I always find having bags like this around very handy, and it’s a nice touch to the subscription.

I am also pleased with the contents of the bag: NO PERFUME SAMPLE! HOORAY! Here’s what I received:

  • Pixi Flawless & Poreless primer
  • Pop Beauty Smokey Lash Kapow mascara
  • MICA Beauty gel eyeliner in black
  • Lash Card (mascara blockers for application)
  • Coastal Scents eyeshadow sampler

I will use everything in this bag and am especially excited about trying the Pixi primer since I’ve heard so many good things about it!

The MICA Beauty gel eyeliner appears to be a full-size product, and the mascara is quite big as well, definitely enough to get a feel for it. The subscription also comes with a card that allows you to get different discounts on what’s available in the bag. I like this option for if I fall in love with something.

I’m really happy with the contents of the bag and feel like it was well worth the $10! I’m already excited for next month’s bag.

  1. I got the same bag. This bag was eh. My first bag had 2 full size products and some deluxe samples.

I went to check out Ipsy and there’s a wait list. I’m interested in the program, but don’t like not knowing when I’m going to be billed and start getting stuff… :-[

There was a waitlist when I first looked into it (in the summer back when it was still My Glam), but I didn’t have to enter any info, just an email address. Maybe that has changed?

Went to check it out and there’s a wait list. I’m interested, but not interested enough to give them my credit card info, not knowing when I’ll be billed/start getting stuff. :-[
