First Impressions: Tarte BB Tinted Treatment

Like many other companies out there, Tarte has released their own BB cream. I got my hands on a sample from Sephora and am currently testing it out to see how it compares to other BB creams. On MakeupAlley, this BB cream currently has 21 reviews and an 80% repurchase rate with a 4.5 rating out of 5. One reviewer even said that it is better than her favorite BB cream, Missha (also a favorite of mine).

I am a huge fan of Tarte, so I had high expectations for this BB cream!

Indulge your skin with this powerful multitasker that works as a primer, moisturizer, light foundation, antiaging treatment, and sunscreen to give you a youthful-looking glow. Worn alone or as the perfect base for makeup, this 12-hour, age-defying, oil-free primer offers light-to-medium, buildable coverage that helps even skintone and other skin imperfections while diffusing light to minimize the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, and pores. The creamy, silky formula goes on smooth and blends easily, leaving you with a natural-looking, flawless finish with a broad-spectrum, chemical-free SPF 30 that offers ideal protection from the sun’s harmful UVA/UVB rays.

Whoa, those are a lot of claims, right? I think that Tarte delivers on a lot of these claims. This BB cream is highly moisturizing; I did not wear an additional moisturizer with this product and don’t feel it is needed with it either. This BB cream is probably the closest match to what original, Asian BB creams are like. It provides a lot of coverage and a primer is not needed beforehand to smooth out the skin, as this cream will do it for you.

Although the description says it can be used as a primer for other makeup, I would never wear this with another product (except powder) on top. I just feel like that would be way too much product on my face. Alone, I would say this is medium coverage, which is just enough for me! It does blur pores nicely and wear well.

My sample is in the shade “Light”. If you’ve never used Tarte foundations before, do your research. I’ve read that they run dark compared to other brands, and I would have to agree. My BB cream shade is “Light”, and it is on the darker side but nothing I couldn’t blend out to look natural. The shade is a little warm for my tastes as well.

I don’t know if it will wear up to 12-hours or not; I imagine this claim will depend on your skin type. Around the six hour mark, I felt a little oily and used MAC’s Fix+ to freshen up, which is all that was needed. In the morning, I did set the BB cream with MAC Forever Marilyn beauty powder (I ALWAYS wear powder).

Here are some swatch comparisons, in both sun and shade! This shade was an okay match for me overall, but definitely not perfect like NARS Sheer Glow, which I swatched simply to show the comparison to the best match for my skin. My favorite BB cream is still Missha, but I do like what Tarte came up with here.

What do you think of Tarte’s BB cream?

Oh great, this review comes to the right moment. I was looking for a new BB cream to try. From what i see on your swatches i can tell that Missha & Nars suit you better than Tarte.
    Will you keep using it??

  2. I have two of the UD Naked BB samples. I started using one- I really like it.
