Welcome to my first true mascara review! I posted about five of my favorite mascaras before, but one of my goals is to get away from my love of powdery goodness and get a bigger variety here! Anyway, I decided to review this mascara from MAC: Zoom Fast Black Lash, which I received in a kit that I purchased at a CCO in the fall.
Deeply dark drama. Same as Zoom Lash, but with carbon black pigment. Saturates lashes with the richest black ever. Creamy, velvety formula builds density and conditions. Feels supple, light, flexible. Ultra-sculpted brush embraces and separates each lash, hugging every curve.
This mascara has average ratings on MAC’s website and on MakeupAlley, with a 3.3 rating on MUA and 108 reviews, and a 3.3 rating with 28 reviews on MAC’s website.
The brush is long and thin, so if you like a brush with a lot of volume (like Urban Decay Big Fatty), you won’t like this mascara. The bristles are very short as well.
You can also see that the mascara has started to thicken up and get stuck to the brushes, which is what happens over time with this mascara as it begins to dry out. Straight out of the tube, this formula is VERY wet, making it easy to smudge everywhere. I found that this mascara required some patience when applying due to that!
The color of this mascara is great. It is very black and rich! If you want blackest black, this is a great choice.
Now, for a million pictures of my eyes! Warning: I wear contacts and you will be able to see them.
Here are my bare lashes, no mascara.
Now for some shots while wearing the mascara!
The results aren’t incredibly dramatic, but I like the length this mascara gives. One thing to note is that this doesn’t hold curl in my lashes, but my lashes are HEAVY and hardly any mascara holds curl, even waterproof ones! I also recommend combing your lashes with this mascara, as it tends to make lashes stick together. This is not a problem fresh out of the tube when it is absolutely brand new, at least not for me. I don’t have any problem with flaking or raccoon eyes with this mascara.
I don’t use mascaras for very long because of my contacts (just for safety reasons), and this seemed to change consistency rather quickly. I love this mascara for the lengthening properties and how black it is, but at $16 a pop there are MANY drugstore mascaras out there that are much better at half the price.
