Say hello to my favorite beauty product of all time. Yes, it’s true. Never have I loved anything as much as I love this face powder from Maybelline. This is my holy grail face powder and I figured it’s about time I talk about WHY I love it so much! On MakeupAlley, this has a 4.1 star rating with 1286 reviews, showing that this is a much loved product in the beauty world, and rightly so!
- Formula is jet-milled into ultra-fine particles for an air-soft, ultra-silky texture
- The suede-touch puff smoothes onto skin evenly, effortlessly, for the most beautiful matte perfection
This description is entirely accurate. This powder is SO finely milled and offers sheer to medium coverage, which is perfect for me. I don’t look for full coverage because I just don’t need it. I wear it over my foundation and it instantly makes any foundation I’ve applied look even better!
The powder comes with a standard flat applicator puff and has a mirror underneath that just slides open. The packaging is easy to operate and it’s also very lightweight. It’s not very stylish, but I just don’t care because the quality is there for sure. I don’t have my applicator because I gave it to my mom. She was using a COTTON ROUND to apply powder because she lost her powder puff…I had to give her mine, especially since I use MAC’s luxury powder puffs to apply this. I do recommend experimenting with application when it comes to powders though; some powders I need to apply with a brush, but I prefer this with a powder puff.
The powder itself is very soft to the touch. It may not appear this way on the first layer or so. When you first use it, the product may seem on the dry side, which goes away after the first few swipes on the top. My pan has a dent in it right now so it might look uneven.
I rarely touch up my makeup when I use this powder. It literally lasts over eight hours when I wear it, which is great for long days when I’m out and about and don’t have time to be primping. 😉 It is mattifying, but not chalky or drying at all, and it doesn’t look powdery. If you’ve ever used ELF’s translucent mattifying powder, you have seen what an awful, chalky mess that stuff is. It is SO chalky and looks cakey. The Dream Matte powder is seriously the opposite of that!
Here’s a heavy swatch on my skin- my shade is Medium Sand. Unfortunately, the color selection of this powder is terrible. There are only four shades and the darkest shade is still a medium color, though I believe this used to come in a darker color, so maybe it’s worth looking for at a discount store or online.
The price of this product is $6-$8 at most drugstores and convenience stores. I pay $7 for mine at Meijer.
Overall, if this ever gets discontinued I will go to every drugstore I can find in a twenty mile radius and buy a ton of backups! Nothing compares to this powder in my world. It’s perfect for me!
