Current Obsession: NYX Gel Liner & Smudger in Dark Brown

I am having a major love affair with brown smokey eyes lately; I blame this on the warmer weather and upcoming summer months! I love gel eyeliner and am really happy with my black Bobbi Brown liner, but wanted to get something in the brown family. Enter beauty on a budget: this NYX liner is only $8 at Ulta and has a matte finish (swoon!).

On Ulta’s website, these now have names. Apparently the dark brown one is named Scarlette. There’s also a lighter brown called Charlotte, and a few other shades (black, teal, and cobalt blue). As far as I know, they are all matte.

It looks a little dry in the pot and it’s definitely washed out due to the sunlight here, but the color itself is very rich and pigmented. It’s also soft and easy to work with. I have been using it with a MAC 212 brush, but this could be used with a variety of brushes. I think it would probably work best with an angled eyeliner brush, which I haven’t tried yet.

Here’s probably one of the weirdest swatches ever, but you get the idea of the color. It is very pigmented!

My current obsession is pairing this with L’Oreal Infallible in Bronzed Taupe, MAC Paint Pot in Eclair, and my Urban Decay Naked 2 palette (Tease and Foxy). It stays in my waterline all day and doesn’t irritate my eyes at all, and I wear contacts. I don’t start to see fading until a good eight hours after application, which I think is great for the price. I’ve also noticed that it depends what shadow and primer I’m wearing as a base. I am curious how long this will stay workable though. The jar has an expiration date of six months, which makes me wonder if it will dry up quickly, or if NYX is just trying to be sanitary.

Overall, this is an awesome product! I love it and it is so affordable and long wearing.
