I don’t know about you, but I LOVE mod makeup. There’s just something sexy and glamorous about it. It’s also fairly easy to achieve with a small amount of products. Here’s what I used to achieve a mod-inspired look:
L’Oreal Magic Nude Liquid Powder in 316 Nude Beige
Maybelline Dream Matte Powder in Medium Sand
MAC Blackground paint pot
Bobbi Brown gel eyeliner in Black Ink
Benefit Bad Gal mascara (not pictured)
Khroma Beauty Scintillate false lashes
MAC Fleshpot lipstick
MAC self-made quad: I used Copperplate, Omega, and Blanc Type.
NYX Retractable Eye Liner in White
MAC brow pencil in Spiked
DUO lash glue
Illamasqua blush in Katie
Sonia Kashuk No. 110 concealer brush
Sonia Kashuk foundation brush (from a set)
Sonia Kashuk blending brush (from a set)
Sonia Kashuk No. 202 detailing brushELF Spoolie
BDellium Kabuki (not pictured)
Naturally, since this is a mod look the overall goal was dark eyes, pale lips, and matte skin. I didn’t use any highlighting products, because with mod style, it’s all about dramatic eyes and big lashes a la Twiggy!
Here’s how I achieved this look:
First, I applied L’Oreal Magic Nude with the Sonia Kashuk foundation brush. This can also be applied with fingers (as the directions state), but I wanted to test it out with a brush. 🙂 Using MAC Spiked, I filled in my brows, and moved on to apply Blackground with the 110 brush.
The next step of the eyes was to soften up the intensity of the black by highlighting the brow bone with Blanc Type, and softening the crease and lid by blending Copperplate over the lid, and Omega into the crease. Finally, I used the DUO lash glue and applied the Scintillate lashes from Khroma Beauty. Now, these lashes are beautiful and dramatic; however, they are heavy. I wouldn’t be able to wear these for an extended period of time. These are not lightweight, and I believe this is because they are thicker at the band.
With the NYX pencil I lined my inner rims with white, and used the 202 brush and Bobbi Brown gel eyeliner to draw a thick black line on the lower lash, starting in the middle of my eye and moving outward into a slight cat eye point. To finish the eyes, I applied a little bit of Benefit Bad Gal mascara on the bottom and top lashes.
After finishing the eyes, I used the BDellium kabuki brush to apply Katie, a matte baby pink blush, and applied a little bit of Maybelline Dream Matte powder despite the powder finish of L’Oreal! I finished the look by wearing MAC Fleshpot lipstick.
As you can see, this is pretty low maintenance despite the dramatic look. This is something I would wear for a date night with my husband, or maybe to a bachelorette party!
