Fitness Friday: Week in Review!


Well, I have to say that a week in, I definitely surprised myself! Here’s a little run down of how I felt about it all:

Thursday 8/1: Am I insane? I’M GOING TO DIE!

Friday 8/2: This isn’t so bad.

Saturday 8/3: I didn’t want to run, but my dog woke me up early so I went to the park. It was a beautiful morning and well worth it. Plus, I swam for over and hour that day.

Sunday 8/4: No run. Rest day!

Monday 8/5: Treadmill. Nothing too great…I was in a terrible mood that morning! Watched beauty videos on my iPad.

Tuesday 8/6: This is the day I surprised myself. I thought no way could I run a mile without stopping, but I can! Yay! I don’t know why I assumed I wouldn’t be able to do it. Listened to: Run Lola Run soundtrack (I love that movie).

Wednesday 8/7: THE DAY FROM HELL. Hot and miserable, ran on choppy concrete, and it was windy. Still, I made it and was initially planning on taking a rest day, but didn’t want to! Listened to: Paul Oakenfold Creamfields Volume 1 and Run Lola Run again.

Thursday 8/8: Really great run. Ran a mile and a half and walked another 2.5 miles. Saw a lot of people on the trail too, including an older guy walking his senior golden retrievers. *Day.Made.* Listened to: Lady Gaga, Jock Jams Volume 1 because I AM SO ‘90s!!!

So, in a week I have surprised myself quite a bit. I haven’t been very sore, except that Sunday, but I think the swimming did me in. Using the Nike+ app keeps me motivated, and my sister is using it too. She said I inspired her to get back into running, which made me SO HAPPY and feel amazing! 🙂 I am hoping to visit her in a couple of weeks. Maybe by then I can keep up with her…I doubt it though. 😉

Leggings of amazingness!

I made a few running related purchases throughout the week that have been helpful. First, Danskin leggings. How did I ever live without these? They fit me perfectly and don’t get in the way while I’m working out. I also bought a small waist band to hold my phone, iPod, and a key while I’m out. It’s by Marika and I found it at Marshall’s. This has been really useful since I often run with my border collie and need to be hands free for the leash. The pack just stays in place around my waist. I also bought a few shirts because let’s face it, even when I’m a sweaty mess, I still want my clothes to be stylish! 😉 I also had to pick up insoles for my shoes, which was the most important purchase. My feet are SO flat it is ridiculous.

Now for something REALLY scary: There is a 5k race in October where the proceeds go to a local animal shelter. My sister wants to run husband wants me to do it. I’m terrified to sign up. What should I do??? On one hand, it would keep me motivated. I also know that I am highly competitive athletically and would probably die trying. The race is October 5th, so it’s still a good two months away. Any thoughts?

    Good job, dear!!!
    I started working out again last Fall after 10 years of doing literally nothing! 😛
    I still can’t run for more than 5 minutes though! Any tips?
    Anyway, I think you should to to that run!!! It’s almost two month away and you have plenty of time to practice! 😉

    I always listen to music when I run/walk. To me it’s impossible to work out without music. I get bored easily!

      My tip is to find the right pace and just take it slowly. My biggest issue is trying to run too fast too quickly. Building endurance is key! 🙂 Too bad you’re so far away! We could be running buddies! 😀
