I can’t believe it has almost been an entire month since I started running. Not only that, I’ve stuck with it. This week I decided to go to a proper running shoe store and get fitted for a new pair of kicks. The ones I was wearing just weren’t cutting it. This was actually quite scary, because I felt like I’d go in and they would say “you’re not a real runner…”. Yes, this is totally illogical as it is a business trying to make money, but that’s just how my mind works. 😉
I’m happy to report that I couldn’t be more wrong about that assumption, and the woman who fitted my shoes was SO helpful and encouraging! I will definitely go back. She watched me walk back and forth barefoot and brought out a few pairs for me to try on. Even just walking in the different pairs, I felt a HUGE difference.
I ended up getting this pair from Saucony, which has an awesome arch support area that you can see above. This is exactly what I needed. I can’t believe how stable my feet feel now, and I’m not getting stabby, miserable, ankle pain that I had before. Definitely worth the investment. Unfortunately, I haven’t been able to enjoy them as much as I’d like, because I’m SICK! I got a cold from my sister, but still managed to run three times this week (today pending). My husband went with me on Wednesday night, so that was fun. Plus, I almost beat my best mile…unfortunately, I was twenty lousy seconds short. If I had known I was that close, I would have booked it. 😉
In other news, I am still undecided about the 5K in October. The woman who helped me buy the right shoes encouraged me to just sign up for it. She asked several times if I was signed up for a race and I said there was one that I was thinking about. My plan now is to get better from this cold, go on a long run, and attempt to evaluate where I am now and what I can accomplish in the next month. Maybe I’ll have an update on this next week!
