Every once in awhile, a beauty product comes along and creates a huge frenzy. Benefit’s Stay Flawless 15-Hour Primer ($32) is definitely one of those products. I’ve heard all sorts of reviews, mostly love it or hate it reviews. I have my own opinions on it of course, and being that Benefit has been a hit or miss brand for me, I’m happy to say that I do like this primer.
Different than most primers, this comes in a glue stick format with a little cap on top. I leave this on so it doesn’t dry out. One thing that is a little frustrating about this primer is that when you twist it up to use it, the primer tends to crumble when twisting it back down. Because of this, I twist up the minimal amount while using it, because I don’t want it to break.
As for application, you need to follow the directions with this primer. You can’t put this on your face, dry your hair, and then apply foundation. Foundation needs to be applied right away; Benefit recommends “immediately.” I apply it in sections and rub it in; there’s nothing about this in the directions, but it helps me reach all parts of my face, and it doesn’t disturb how the foundation applies at all.
The first foundation I tried this with is a little sample of Oxygen Wow, also from Benefit. I did this because I know that foundation doesn’t last long on my skin. I can’t help but wonder if this primer was Benefit’s response to that…anyway, it definitely extended the wear of the product for me. It does make my makeup stay on noticeably longer.
The texture is a little sticky, but once it is blended into the skin, that feeling dissipates. I don’t find it heavy at all, which says a lot coming from me, because I can’t stand having anything heavy or thick feeling on my skin!
I think what I like the most about this product is the application. It is SO easy to apply quickly thanks to the glue stick type tube. Would I purchase it again? Yes, I probably would. At the same time, I do find Benefit’s products to be overpriced. For $32, this primer shouldn’t be crumbling at all, and it could have sleeker packaging (though the packaging is cute). Also, a lot of people have reported their tube of primer breaking and popping out of the container.
Overall, this primer does work and it does what it claims to do if used properly. I like that I can rely on this for those extra long days, and I definitely have a few of those coming up!
