Kat Von D Lock-It Powder Foundation Review!

KVD2

Kat Von D recently added a powder foundation to her already very popular “Lock-It” line up. I’ve never tried the liquid foundation, so I can’t compare this with that product, or the shade selections, but I do have some thoughts on this product, being a lover of face powders! 🙂

PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

Day or night and everything in between, this budge-proof foundation promises flawless coverage around the clock. The buildable formula evens the complexion and hides imperfections—all without the need for touch-ups. Smudge- and sweat-proof, this foundation won’t cake or crease and the velvety texture wears with a breathable, light touch.

First, the packaging is stunning. This compact is very sturdy and well-made. I would put this up there with the luxury of NARS packaging. It doesn’t have the same texture as NARS; this is very smooth with the exception of the raised KVD logo in the center. I don’t feel like this is going to break or shatter in my purse or makeup bag. It is heavy duty!

There is a large mirror inside of the compact, as well as a sponge to apply the product with. Personally, this sponge wasn’t anything great for application, but I think it would do well with touch ups if needed. I like that this packaging is not wasteful. That is one of my biggest makeup pet peeves!

I did have a hard time choosing a shade with this foundation. I bought mine from Sephora, and swatched a few different shades- 52, 53, and 54. It was really difficult to tell in the store which shade matched me the best. Ultimately, I chose shade 54. This is a little too dark for me; I think it would best work for those in the NC30 range. That said, it is not so dark that I can’t make it look natural with blending, which I am happy about, because I really love this and am impressed by it!

The texture of the powder is very smooth and soft; velvety. This is a full-coverage foundation and it is said that you can wear it over foundation; however, I have not tried that because I just don’t need that much stuff on my face. I do love the finish of this powder. It is matte, but not a dry and stiff matte that looks chalky. It just looks like skin. It does give a flawless finish. If you don’t want the fuss of a liquid foundation but still want some coverage, this is a good option if you can find the right shade.

Now let’s talk about where I am most impressed: staying power! This stuff does not BUDGE. Want to know how I know this? I went for a run in 71 degree weather. I’m not talking about a little baby run either. I ran three miles, was sweating buckets, and THIS STUFF STAYED ON. I’m talking did not move stayed on. My skin still looked great after my run, and believe me, I’m usually a red-faced mess. I don’t usually run in makeup, but that was a day where I just didn’t take it off before going. Color me impressed!

Another tidbit about this powder is that you can also dust other powders on top of it and still not look cakey. Now, I don’t just pile on the powder, but since this is a little too dark, I did have to play with it a bit to even it out, so I dusted a little bit of MAC MSF Natural in medium over it on a couple occasions.

Overall, I LOVE this stuff! This is an amazing product and I will absolutely buy it again, just in a lighter shade. This powder is $34, so it is pretty expensive; however, the staying power is incredible. If you’re someone who sweats a lot or has trouble keeping makeup on your face throughout the day, definitely give this a try!

Ooh, maybe I’ll give this a try!with the humidity here I do have a hard time with my face sweating off.

Have you seen the lightest shades in the powder? I tend to be the second to lightest or lightest shade in face products and I loathe when instead of lighter shades for powder there is just a translucent shade. I may be very fair, but I am far from see-through!

Do you live somewhere warm/tan easily? In some posts you look darker in color and in some lighter, nothing radical though, unless it is a lighting/different products situation. I think a tan suits you well.

I did see the entire range and they aren’t just translucent; they have actual shades! Actually, the variety is pretty decent in the line. I do tan easily, but I think the difference is mostly lighting. I take my photos in natural light in front of the same window all the time and really depends on the sunlight! I am usually a light to medium in foundation depending on the line, often the shade just before they get “tan”. 🙂
