CoverGirl Flamed Out Mascara Review!

CG4

CoverGirl Flamed Out mascara ($6) came out earlier this year. Riding on the tails of the Clump Crusher, it doesn’t surprise me that most of the reviews I’ve seen on this mascara are negative. Since the wand seemed similar to Too Faced Better Than Sex mascara, I decided to see if they were possible dupes. I don’t think they are dupes, but Flamed Out is a decent mascara.

Flamed Out promises “instant volume” and a “winged lashes”. The wand is hourglass shaped and product tends to clump up on it, so you may have to wipe it on the tube or on a tissue, since it pulls out excess product. This is frustrating because it seems a bit wasteful.

Flamed Out doesn’t make any promises regarding length, so don’t expect this mascara to have any lengthening properties. It does add nice volume and seems to build easily. The formula is very lightweight and on the dry side, so if you hate super wet mascaras, you’ll probably like this one just for that reason. It also looks natural on the lashes and doesn’t make lashes feel hard and crispy.

My lashes do not stay curled with this mascara, but I seriously have this issue with every mascara I try. I don’t experience any clumping or smudging with Flamed Out and love how it layers with other mascaras, so if you want to achieve a lengthening effect and enjoy layering, you may want to try this for building volume.

I would probably purchase this again just because I like how “soft” it is on my lashes.

Have you tried this mascara yet? What are your favorite drugstore mascaras?
