Fitness Friday: A New Year and Running Resolutions!

Happy New Year! I’m not really one for resolutions; I’m more of the “if I want to do it, I’ll do it right then” type, hence the running I started back in August. It’s hard to believe that this is my sixth month of running. I’m very proud that I stuck with it and REALLY excited for 2014.

Fall of 2013 was a huge challenge in my personal life. I had some rough moments, especially losing my beloved dog in November. December ended up being a good month for me: I ran my farthest run of the year, and logged the most miles of any month so far. One of the races I was scheduled for I couldn’t go to due to the weather being too bad to drive there, so funnily enough, I ended up doing the Ugly Sweater race that was rescheduled.

JINGLEI even took my border collie to the race, decked out in a sweater. That was a tough run, but there were even WORSE runs due to weather.

Happily, I finished 2013 on a strong note. I almost ran seven miles one day (6.65 to be exact). This makes me feel good about where I’m headed for the new year.

My husband and I signed up for a half marathon. A HALF MARATHON. That’s 13.1 miles! It isn’t until September though, so we have plenty of time to train. Knowing I’m in the seven mile range now makes me feel good about the progress I can make in the next nine months.

I also signed up for another big race called the CRIM, which is a very popular race; over 50,000 people register for it! I signed up for the 10-miler (the longest race). Never in a million years did I think I would be running that far, but I am very excited for it.

My running goals for the year are to run at least one race per month, improve my 5K time, run the half under three hours (hey, I’m slow), not get injured, and to cross train more.

Do you have any fitness related goals for 2014?

You are def a runner 😀 I have a high respect for ppl who do all those marathons. That’s so not for me though. But i guess the bottom line msg here is to keep on going (dohhh look what it said on the pic!)

Thank you, dear! 🙂 I really appreciate the encouragement!

How did the original idea reach you to even start thinking about running the marathon?

I’m only running the half marathon, not the full. 🙂 My father-in-law was a marathoner back in the day, and my sister-in-law just ran a half marathon in October. I guess with running I just kept wanting to go further and further.
