I’ve been wanting to try out a NARS lipstick for awhile, but was reluctant on choosing a shade. After all, on Sephora’s website there are thirty-six shades to choose from, many of which sound appealing. Finally, I settled on Barbarella: a sheer peach shade that appeals to my love for that mod ’60s vibe.
Nars Lipsticks are enriched with vitamin E to increase wearability and keep true color intact. Sheer finish creates the most natural, stained-looking lips. Semi-matte produces velvety, full-bodied lips. Finally, satin fashions creamy, moist-looking lips.
The formula is a delight to wear. It’s lightweight, comfortable, and actually feels more like a lip balm than a lipstick. That said, if you have any dryness at all, this lipstick is going to show it. I have to apply lip balm before applying Barbarella, or something like MAC Prep + Prime for lips.
Though the color is described as “sheer peach”, on me it appears to lean toward a peach/pink coral color, which I love. I don’t have anything quite like this shade, and colors that I thought might be similar were more orange. I think it looks pink on me due to the natural shade of my lips.
Barbarella is a nice alternative to nude lipsticks as well, since it is sheer. That said, it is very buildable so a more opaque color can be achieved.

In swatches it leans more orange (sorry about the visible snow on my arm). Although there are other shades of coral and orange lipstick in my arsenal, none are quite like Barbarella. The wear time on this lipstick isn’t terribly long (maybe two or three hours), but I’m fine with that being a more “commitment free” lippie wearer.
Overall, Barbarella is a definite win for me and I am already plotting my next NARS lipstick! Any recommendations?
