Maybelline Color Elixir in Blush Essence

The Maybelline Color Elixirs are one of many lip products to take the drugstore by storm in the last year or so. I was totally disappointed in the only L’Oreal glossy stain I tried, since it didn’t show up on my lips at all. Because of that, I was reluctant to try these, but of course I broke down and purchased one in the shade Blush Essence.

Blush Essence is a medium pink shade with some light shimmer in it. My first impression with this was disappointment. It wasn’t very pigmented, at least not as much as I expected. It is also a similar tone as my natural lip color, so it is a pretty natural shade for me. Instead of purchasing more shades, I just put it aside and went back to it again later.

After wearing it a few more times, I have come to like it more, but it isn’t my favorite lip product by any means. Upon first application, it feels a little thick; this dissipates in a few minutes while the product sinks into the skin.

Blush

Blush Essence isn’t completely opaque; it is on the medium spectrum in terms of coverage. The shade has really grown on me though, especially with the slight shimmer. I will probably get another shade after looking up some swatches, definitely something more vibrant (let’s be honest, I ALWAYS pick out these medium pinks!).

Have you tried these? What do you think of them?

  1. I’ve heard a lot of things about this product, and it looks very interesting and natural! Would you consider this as more of a gloss or a liquid lipstick because I’ve heard people describe it very different ways.

Hi Veronica…to me, it is more of a gloss. The Rimmel Show Offs are definitely more of a liquid lipstick, and these are very different from them!
