MAC Patentpolish Lip Pencil in Teen Dream

MAC2

Like every other makeup company out there, MAC has finally released a “chubby lip pencil” style lippie, but with a twist!

PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

The colour and shine of a gloss, the precision of a lip pencil – now in one colour stick. M•A•C Patentpolish Lip Pencil instantly achieves a luscious shine with a single swipe. Effortless twist-up keeps application clean and simple, with no need to sharpen.

So yes- this pencil is designed to be high shine and mega glossy.

The tip of the pencil is domed and very wide, so for those wanting a more precise application, it would be helpful to use a lip brush. The shade I picked up is Teen Dream, described as “bright coral orange.” While I like this pencil and have been using it, I wouldn’t purchase more, and I don’t think is MAC’s best lip product by any means.

First, it’s $20. Yes, I willingly shelled out $20 for it, but that seems like a bit much for a product like this. Even $15 would be more reasonable and acceptable, but with so many great drugstore lip pencils, it’s hard to think that this one is THAT much better.

What I like:

  • The color
  • Texture – It’s very creamy and comfortable to wear
  • Staying power is decent; I get a few hours out of this one
  • Pigmented in one swipe, but can be built up

What I don’t like:

  • Price
  • Can apply streaky
  • Emphasizes dry patches

If you have mostly dry lips like I do, you might have a tricky time applying this. It will cling to and emphasize dry areas, so I recommend exfoliating beforehand. That said, on the lips it is VERY comfortable. You don’t need much, and it’s definitely thicker than other lip pencils. The whole “one swipe” claim is definitely truth.

I love this color…

One swipe, two swipes, three swipes

These pencils are limited edition (of course). I don’t see myself picking up more shades, but I will continue to wear Teen Dream throughout the summer, since it’s such a gorgeous color. I’m going to experiment with it in terms of mixing with other products too.

Have you tried these? What do you think of them?
