Physicians Formula Youthful Wear Spotless foundation ($14) is said to be inspired by, or a dupe of, Armani Maestro foundation. I cannot compare this claim as I’ve never tried the Armani variety, but I can say that after testing it for a month, I LOVE this foundation. Unfortunately, it only comes in three shades: Light, Medium, and Medium Beige. Not the best selection, but getting better in terms of the brand.
This is a watery foundation in the same vein as L’Oreal Magic Nude and Chanel Vitalumiere Aqua foundations. The texture is very silky, but not heavy, wet, or sticky. It comes with a brush, but I used a Sigma F-88 brush to apply it instead, since the brush it comes with is so small; however, the brush IS good for other things, like applying concealer under the eyes.
This foundation comes with a dropper tool to dispense drops of the foundation onto the brush. I thought I would hate this feature, but it is so easy to use, and I’m actually starting to prefer it. I put three drops on the brush to start with, and then add more if needed. I can get my whole face done with about 10 small drops.
Like I already stated, the consistency is thin and silky. It truly melts into the skin and looks very natural, which is always appreciated. One gripe that is worth noting is the color selection. I chose the shade Light, because Physicians Formula runs dark, and this is no exception to that. I’ve read several NC20 reviews that state it is a little dark, but still workable (including an awesome review from Nouveau Cheap). If you are very fair, this might look orange on your skin. I would love to see just once, that Physicians Formula released something a range of shades, instead of a few that don’t work for a lot of people.
PF Spotless in Light, Bourjois Healthy Mix in Beige Clair, Covergirl TruBlend in Medium 3, MAC Mineralize in NC25, NARS Sheer Glow in Santa Fe, Physicians Formula BB Cream in Light
The finish truly looks like skin. I wouldn’t call it dewy, but it leaves behind a natural looking radiance on the skin. I don’t have a lot of skin flaws I’m looking to cover, but I like how this refines my pores, which are larger on the tops of my cheeks.
I’m also very impressed by the staying power of this foundation. In the photo above, I had been wearing it for about seven hours. This foundation is very long lasting on my skin, and I know G from Nouveau Cheap had the same experience if you read her blog post about it.
I love this foundation and it is definitely a drugstore winner. Unfortunately, the shade range is terrible!
Have you tried this foundation? What do you think of it?
