Maybelline The Nudes Palette Review

My oh my, the beauty world is BUZZING about this palette, isn’t it? The Nudes palette from Maybelline has been around for awhile now, and I tried to resist it, but curiosity got the best of me (unfortunately). I didn’t have high expectations for this palette because as I’ve said many times before, I’m a little snobby about eyeshadow (I can’t help it- I adore eyeshadow!).

There is one very awesome shade in this palette, and it’s the 4th shade in the top row. It is a rich bronze and super pigmented and soft. WHY is this one so great, and the other ones are totally average, if not downright bad? The palette is very inconsistent when it comes to pigmentation and shadow quality. The swatches may look okay, but many require several passes to build up color.

It is possible to get a decent look with these, but it won’t last long, even with primer. The shadows fade quickly (for me, within 4 hours), so if you want something to not budge and stay fresh all day, the Nudes palette is not it.

I think this palette would be good for someone who is just starting to get into makeup and is very young, maybe in junior high (or whatever age kids wear makeup these days). It would also be good for someone who likes to wear makeup occasionally, and doesn’t care if it fades.

At the $10 price point, it is probably worth exploring one of the Coastal Scents Revealed palettes. They have 20 shades and each palette is $20. I can’t speak from experience because I don’t have either palette (yet), but if you are a die hard eyeshadow person like moi, you may want to skip The Nudes.

What do you think? Have you tried this palette yet?

  1. I rarely, if ever, buy drugstore eye shadow. I always seem to be disappointed.
