I thought it would be fun to start some kind of series about my favorite eyeshadows and attempt to find dupes for them. Maybe some people will find this helpful as well, if they are debating shopping for something. 🙂 I’m starting with one of my favorite eyeshadows of all time: NARS Coconut Grove! It is a very rich matte brown, almost black.
I went through some palettes and dug around for shades that I thought would be close to Coconut Grove; some are singles, but most are from palettes.
Here are the swatches in the sunlight; sorry for the lighting inconsistency here! They are too dark in the first photo and too light in the second. I take all of my photos in natural light though, so I’m working with what I have. 🙂 Anyway! Here is the swatch order:
Coconut Grove (NARS)
Caravaggio (Kat Von D Saint palette)
Brown shade from Tarte Mattenifient palette
Triple Fudge (Too Faced Chocolate Bar palette)
Continuous Cocoa (L’Oreal Infallible)
Crave (Urban Decay)
The closest shade, thought it may not seem like it in these photos, is Urban Decay Crave. Crave has more of a charcoal tone to it; it’s just on the edge of black and brown. Continuous Cocoa has a different finish, and also has hints of black.
I truly adore Coconut Grove and think this eyeshadow is something special! If you’re looking for a luxurious, dark brown, definitely check out this shadow. It is worth every penny and will last forever because it is SO pigmented.
