Tarte Rainforest After Dark Limited Edition Palette Review

tarte1

In a moment of weakness, I purchased the Tarte Rainforest After Dark palette ($38, limited edition). I’ve never had one of these Tarte discs, so I can’t speak for how this compares to the other palettes. The palette is housed in a circular, faux wood grain disc with a gold snake on the front and a raised, jeweled eye. The packaging is beautiful overall, and I love the huge mirror on the inside.

On the inside, there are six shadows, a full-sized blush, a highlighter, and a bronzer. Everything in this palette is very neutral.

Eyeshadows:

  • Bare to Explore – pink beige
  • Make a Mauve- plum with some shimmer
  • Plum Me Away- dark plum
  • Up to No Gold- shimmering true gold
  • Tan-gled Up In You- tan
  • Don’t Turn a Brown- dark brown

Blush:

  • Unleashed – nude rose

Highlighter:

  • Champagne (I already have the full size of this and love it)

Bronzer:

  • Park Avenue Princess

I’m kind of torn on this palette. There are definitely positives and negatives here. First, if you want no-brainer makeup for every day wear, this is a great palette. It’s easy to get a neutral look with this disc and it has everything you need without having to think about it much. The quality of the blush is just like the other Tarte blushes in the main line. It does need to be built up a little, at least on my skin, but this isn’t always a bad thing. The quality of the highlighter is perfect- I love using this on my cheeks and brow bone. The bronzer is of good quality, but it’s not my favorite bronzer in the world, since it is a little light, but it does add a little glow.

The eyeshadows are of mixed quality. The shimmer in Make a Mauve doesn’t really translate on the lid; it just looks matte. My favorite color here is Up to No Gold. It works best if used with a flat brush compared to a fluffy one, and you may need to build it up a little.

Another thing to make note of is that this is very similar to the Mattenificent palette from Tarte. That one is strictly eyeshadows, and they perform better than the ones in this palette. I like the shadows here, but they don’t blow me away by any means. That said, I do feel this is a good price point for what is included here, thanks to the blush and the highlighter. I truly LOVE Unleashed and would love to see it available by itself.

What do you think of this palette? Do you have any of these Tarte discs?
