I’ve been trying to make a conscious effort to review more of what arrives in my Ipsy subscription. I truly love getting my Ipsy bag every month, and think it is a great way to try new things. The Cailyn lip balm in Apple Pink was in my April 2014 Ipsy bag. Cailyn lip balms retail for $19 otherwise.
The packaging is quite unique. The bottom twists off to reveal the product, and the top part pulls out to reveal a lip brush. I like the design, but the lip brush isn’t that great. I found that it left streaks. This product applies much better using fingers, but that isn’t the most sanitary option either.
I don’t know why this is called a “lip balm”. To me, a lip balm is moisturizing, and this is a very pigmented matte product with a lot of staying power. There are many great matte lipstick formulas out there that aren’t drying, but this one IS drying. That said, it is possible to make it work with wearing an actual moisturizing lip balm underneath it.
The color is beautiful. It’s a deep candy pink with hints of red/orange and just a touch of rose.
Originally, I thought this would be a more nude pink, but as you can see it is quite vibrant. This color is totally up my alley. It’s a bummer that it’s so drying, but again, with a good lip balm underneath that isn’t a problem. The price seems pretty steep for something so dry, but the pigmentation is fantastic.
Did you try out this item in an Ipsy bag? What did you think of it?
