The 90s are EVERYWHERE. I’m not usually one to jump on trends, but as a teenager in the 90s, I felt obligated to represent! 🙂 I graduated from high school in 1999, so my life was all about Beverly Hills, 90210, My So-Called Life, grunge, MTV…and on and on. To this day I am still a huge fan of BH and it is totally my favorite show ever, and I am team BRENDA! Anyway…I am not really a die hard trend person. I usually just like what I like…but I couldn’t help myself with this one. First, it is necessary to check out some classic Brenda looks.
Dylan + Brenda 4EVER. Right?
I even busted out some real plaid flannel (it was my grandpa’s shirt but perfect for this, right??).
One nice thing about this super popular 90s look is that it is really easy to achieve. Seriously, everyone can do it. Here’s what I used:
Becca Ombre palette
NARS Irresistiblement bronzer
NARS Malibu multiple
MUFE Super Matte loose powder
MUFE Aqua Brow
MAC Quite Natural paint pot
MAC Oak lip liner
Starlooks Limitless lipstick
Boots No 7 Beautifully Matte foundation
Bobbi Brown Long-Wear gel eyeliner in Sepia Ink
All matte everything! I kept the eyes very simple: I applied MAC Quite Natural to the lids as a primer, and used the first three shades from the Becca palette. I put the darkest one on the lids, the second shade in the crease, and buffed everything out with the first color in the palette. I filled in my brows with MUFE Aqua Brow for a clean look that won’t budge.
The blush is very understated here, so I took the easy route and used NARS Malibu, just dotting it on the cheeks and blending. Since this is all matte, I used ZERO highlighter. I didn’t use concealer either and just applied foundation and powder, but you can certainly use concealer if you need it.
For the lips, the key part of Brenda’s look, I used MAC Oak lip liner to fill in my lips. Starlooks Limitless lipstick is not matte, but I wanted something in this color family. It is also super pigmented, so I didn’t just swipe it on and go. To achieve the matte finish, I very lightly dotted it onto my lips with my finger. Paired with Oak, the shine was eliminated.
Hee hee…I can’t stop giggling, so I can’t quite rock the mean girl scowl a la Brenda. 😉
