Josie Maran Black Oil Mascara Review

Josie Maran Black Oil mascara is a newer addition to the Josie Maran line. Isn’t the packaging cute? This is a little sample size from Sephora. I would love to find a more natural mascara that really wows me, so I was excited to try this.

Treat your lashes to the nourishing lash-softening effect of 100 percent pure argan oil mixed with blackest-black iron mineral pigments, and infused with the lash strengthening properties of bamboo. Creamy and 91 percent natural, Argan Black Oil Mascara conditions as it coats, lengthens, volumizes, lifts, and curls, for eyes that sparkle and invite the world in. The unique formula is delivered by an innovative five-ball brush that reaches every lash.

I like the brush on this wand. It does make it really easy to apply to the lashes, and it’s a nice size- not too big, and not too small. The mascara does tend to clump up at the end of the wand though.

The mascara itself is pretty average. I didn’t experience an amazing amount of volume or length- it doesn’t have that “WOW” factor for me. It especially does not hold a curl, which is the story of my life with mascaras, so I wasn’t expecting that at all.

I found that with more than one layer, it really made my lashes clump together. Two layers is what you’re seeing in the photos. This made me look like I have less lashes than I actually do, due to the clumping, which defeats the purpose of mascara!

I do like the lightness of the mascara and how easy it is to remove. The formula is very gentle. It is very black, which is a perk for those who want to achieve super dark lashes.

I would not purchase this in the full size, but it does have a few redeeming qualities. Mascara seems like one of those beauty products that is soooo personal. It really does depend on what your lashes need and what your lash type is like.

Do you have any natural mascara recommendations? I really like the Physicians Formula Organic Wear mascara in the green tube!
