This is the first “trend forecast” palette I’ve ever purchased from MAC. They release these before seasons (right now the Spring 15 palette is also available) to give a head start on different color trends. I found this palette particularly striking, so I decided to pick it up while it was available. I am a huge fan of MAC Paint Pots, and these perform similarly.
This palette has six colors: Gray Matter (gray with pearl), Azure Haze (stonewashed blue jeans with pearl), Toasted Chestnut (midtone greenish gray with pearl), Storm Cloud (bluish green with pearl), Tortoise (blackish brown with pearl- seems burgundy to me!), and Organic (hunter green with pearl).
All of these are very pigmented with the exception of Gray Matter, which tends to be a little patchy on the first pass. It is also worth noting that these are not as creamy and soft as paint pots. While they have the same kind of lasting power (at least on me), the texture is harder and more stiff. Because of that, I recommend using a flat brush for application, or your fingers. The warmth of your body will make it softer and easier to blend.
I love the array of colors here. The deep olive and periwinkle are something different, the plummy burgundy is definitely a fall color, and that pop of teal is unlike anything else I have. It actually reminds me of those old L’Oreal HIP cream shadow pots (another awesome thing discontinued…).
Overall I am happy with my first foray into these trend palettes and have found them to work great alone or as bases for powder shadows. They also really look pretty under something with a sheer shimmer or glitter wash.
Have you tried these before? This one is still available on MAC’s website ($40), but I’m not sure for how long.
