Hourglass Ambient Lighting Palette Review

Another goodie from the “feeling sorry for myself” haul that I mentioned: the Hourglass Ambient Lighting Palette. I’ve never tried these before, but I had felt them in the store and remembered how beautifully soft they were. I’m pleased to say that I LOVE this palette and think that it is a great beauty investment! Even though this palette has been reviewed all over the place, I’m going to put in my two cents. 🙂

This comes with three powders: Dim Light, Incandescent Light, and Radiant Light.

I use Dim Light (the first shade) as a setting powder, Incandescent light (second shade) as a highlighter and sometimes a setting powder, and Radiant Light (third shade) to bronze and warm up my skin.

The texture of this powder is mind blowing. It is SO SOFT. It feels like soft pillows or beautiful sheets; it simply needs to be felt in person! The packaging is also very sleek and it comes with a nice mirror.

Light diffusing powders have been super popular in the last year or so. To be honest, I wasn’t a huge fan of the NARS powder and didn’t see what was so great about it. Like I compare to every powder, it just didn’t set like my Maybelline matte powder! The Hourglass powders are very different than a traditional setting powder. This little blurb about them sums it up nicely:

“I learned early on how different types of light can truly flatter the complexion. Growing up, my mother had pink light bulbs in all of the lamps throughout the house. She loved pink light because it was the softest and most flattering, and she always wanted to look good. I used this concept of lighting in Ambient Lighting Powder.” —Carisa Janes, Hourglass Founder

The Hourglass powders truly diffuse light and blur pores. I have some larger pores on my cheeks, and I find that they look as close to airbrushed as you can get while keeping it natural. 🙂 It doesn’t cover up skin, but rather enhances what is already there, providing a very soft hue. A brush picks up the product nicely and it practically applies itself. I just use a fluffy brush to apply a light dusting.

I am so happy that I bought this palette and I definitely want to get the blush palette now! Another winner from Hourglass for me! 🙂
