Kat Von D Monarch Eyeshadow Palette

The Kat Von D Monarch Palette is old news by now in the makeup world, but since this is a recent purchase for me (March), I thought it would be fun to put my two cents out there. This was a complete impulse purchase for me. My doctor’s office is right across the street from my Sephora (I swear I didn’t plan it that way!), and I always pop in after a check up. Anyway, this palette is very beautiful and I love the warm orange hues in the packaging.

This palette has a lot of product with 12 shadows, three of them being larger highlight shades. It also has a mix of mattes and shimmers, and both warm and cool tones.

One thing to note about Kat Von D shadows is that they are VERY soft. They are so soft that it is easy to blend out the colors- a little TOO easy in my opinion, so you have to be careful with the blending brush!

The good:

  • The color balance between light and dark is perfect
  • Unique colors, but many standards
  • Smooth and pigmented
  • Vanish, the matte taupe, is similar to NARS Yamal (one of my fave eyeshadows)
  • Good value for the price
  • Beautiful packaging

The bad:

  • Shadows are a little powdery
  • SUPER blendable (this is personal preference though!)

Overall, this is a beautiful neutral palette for makeup junkies; however, if you’re looking to buy your first neutral palette, I would shop around a bit before making a decision. 🙂

  1. I love the art on the case of this palette! I will have to check it out next time I’m in Sephora.
