When the Too Faced Semi-Sweet Chocolate Bar palette hit the scene, I did not jump on the bandwagon since I already had the first one (and more than enough nude palettes!). I decided to pick it up on a whim when I had the most recent 20% off coupon from Ulta, and I am so happy that I did. I think I like this one even more than the original Chocolate Bar palette! Plus, this palette has some great improvements.
First, the palette is a lot slimmer, so it’s a lot less bulky than the original. This didn’t really bother me about the original, but I am not about to complain about the new slim design either!
The shades in this palette are a little cooler compared to the ones in the original Chocolate Bar palette, the same as the trend with the Urban Decay Naked 1 and 2 palettes. Interestingly, just like with Urban Decay, in which I prefer Naked 2, I prefer the Semisweet palette to the original! 🙂
As a whole, I just think this palette has a more interesting shade selection, especially with that fun blue shadow, Blueberry Swirl! In my opinion, I find this palette more pigmented than the original as well (even though that palette IS very pigmented).
There is one “dud” shade in this palette, that being Pink Sugar. That’s a perfect name, because that’s exactly what it seems like. It is very sheer and seems like an overspray. It’s pretty, but on the crumbly side. That said, the rest of the palette makes up for it.
Original on top, Semisweet on the bottom
Another big improvement to this palette is that the shade names are IN the palette. My favorite shades are Butter Pecan (the large highlighter shade on the bottom), Peanut Butter (5th shade in the middle row), and Frosting (last shade in the middle row).
Like the original, this palette also smells like chocolate. 🙂
Overall, definitely two thumbs up for this palette! I wish I had purchased it sooner. What do you think? Chocolate Bar 1 or 2?
