Happy New Year! Here we are in 2016–I started this blog in August of 2012. I can’t believe it will be four years in this little space this year! I just want to say thank you to anyone who reads my posts and to the companies who have kindly reached out to me to try out their products. In writing about beauty, I have learned a lot about everything beauty related, and a lot about myself!
I really enjoy writing this blog because it is a wonderful creative outlet for me. I’m not the greatest beauty blogger ever by any means. I don’t have any fancy equipment or a web designer, but I hope that you like what you see and I provide somewhat helpful information!
In 2016, I have a few blogging goals, one of which is to hit 1,000,000 views! I also want to do more makeup looks. No, I’m not an amazing makeup artist, but I am pretty creative.
Another goal is to use more of what I have. I did a great job of this in 2015, but still purchased new items here and there (I went a little nuts at the end of 2015…more on that in a bit). It’s kind of an interesting balance to strike. On one hand, as a beauty blogger it is fun to review new things that hit the market. On the other hand, I can’t just buy every new thing that I see. You will never find me buying 10 lipsticks from a new line to compare every shade, because I want to actually use what I own. Overall, I seem to be hitting this balance pretty well and would like to continue.
Another thing I want to do is get back to doing empties posts! I absolutely love seeing empties, but I never have the patience to keep my trash for that long. It either goes in the recycling bin or trash before then.
And now for the BIG 2016 resolution. My friend Krissy and I have challenged each other to an eyeshadow ban since both of us have soooooo many. We do have a few “allowances” here and there:
- Too Faced Peach palette is allowed, because we saw a sneak peek before the new year and decided it was fair game.
- Any limited edition, Walgreens Disney palettes are allowed, because are both Disney nerds.
- Gift cards are allowed (obviously we cannot purchase these ourselves).
- Gifts are allowed.
- For Krissy, she is allowed a palette if she finds one that she feels is necessary for her WEDDING this year! 🙂
- Rewards points (like Birchbox) are allowed.
- Beauty subscription services are allowed.
- If a brand reaches out to me, I can accept shadows. 😀
What is not allowed:
- We cannot buy eyeshadow for each other.
- If we slip up, we have to donate the cost of whatever we purchased to a charity, so we are paying double.
I *think* those are all of the rules we put into place. This is going to be difficult for me, because eyeshadow is my FAVORITE makeup product. I like that we have a few allowances that we can look forward to throughout the year, but I think during holiday time it will be especially difficult. And if Urban Decay releases something amazing (which they always do), it will be a sad state of affairs!
Naturally, before the clock struck midnight on New Year’s Eve, we both went a little shadow crazy between the drugstore and scouring any palettes online that we have been thinking about. I placed an order with Makeup Geek and Colourpop, and splurged on the NARS Dual Intensity palette because it was on clearance at Beauty.com.
Anyway, I may do a quarterly update or so about how this challenge is going. So far so good, but there is already a shadow I want from the NARS spring collection! Luckily, it’s going to be permanent.
Wish me luck! 😀
