In a world of liquid matte lipstick mania, Smashbox has released the Insta-Matte Lipstick Transformer. I decided to try out a sample with a Sephora order that I placed, just out of curiosity. It is designed for use with cream lipsticks, not lip glosses.
The results are not pretty.
- The product tends to ball up
- The product is very thick and goopy
- Difficult to smooth out because it balls up
- Lip color is faded and not as vibrant
- Made my lips look drier
- Color smears easily because the silicone is slippery
Not happy with the initial results, I decided to try another lipstick. This time, I used MAC Toying Around.
After! This is a bright color to begin with, so it is a lot more vibrant, but it still looks dull, at least to me. The end result tends to look like lipstick that has been worn too long instead of a fresh matte lipstick application.
I don’t think this product is for me, but the idea is interesting. I think someone who has perfect skin on their lips may enjoy it. Makeup artists may also want a product like this on hand. The price point is $24. For a casual makeup user, you can probably get similar results with just about any silicone based primer (like Maybelline Baby Skin).
Have you tried this product before? Did it work for you?
