Kevyn Aucoin Essential Starter Kit Review

ka*purchased by me

I was really excited to see this Kevyn Aucoin set on Sephora’s website. I’ve had products from the brand in the past, and all were very high quality. This kit comes with five different makeup products housed in a chic black pouch. The kit contains the following items:

-0.13 oz The Essential Mascara in Black
– 0.024 oz The Flesh Tone Lip Pencil in Bloodroses
– 0.035 oz The Creamy Glow in Bloodroses
– 0.05 oz The Celestial Powder in Candlelight
– 0.05 oz The Matte Bronzing Veil in Desert Nights

The only product in the kit that I have tried in the past is the highlighter in Candlelight, so everything was new to me. If you’re looking for a lot of value and more product for your dollar, this is not the kit for you. The products are very small; however, I personally do not have a problem with this because the quality is very high.

The lip pencil is one of the best lip liners I have ever used. It doesn’t hurt that it is called “Bloodroses” and that “Blood Roses” by Tori Amos is one of my favorite songs ever, but that’s beside the point. 😉 This lip liner doesn’t drag on my horribly dry lips and it’s so pigmented that I just wear it as a lipstick. To add a little shine, I mix in some Vitamin E oil.

The cream blush of the same namesake is super easy to blend and leaves a lovely flush of color when blended out. This shade just screams fall as well! I love the texture of this and will consider purchasing the full-size product when I use up the mini.

Desert Nights, the bronzing veil, is something I have used more as an eyeshadow than a bronzer. That said, I do like it as both. I think this would be a fantastic bronzer for someone who has very fair skin.

The mascara I have yet to use, but I’m happy to have the Candlelight highlighter. If you’ve never used a Kevyn Aucoin powder product, definitely scope them out! They are some of the most finely milled, beautifully blending powders I have ever used.

This kit is $32 on and I would repurchase something like this again. As a heads up, Burberry has a similar kit with their products right now and it’s $35. I won’t be purchasing it since I have Pale Barley already, which is included in the kit. Anyway, if you have been wanting to try Kevyn Aucoin products, this kit is a fantastic introduction!
