And so the fear of missing out got to me. I’ve been thinking about the Tarte Rainforest of the Sea palette since it came out in February, so I decided to break down and just purchase it, especially since my friend raves about it ALL the time.
I have to say that in recent years I have been very disappointed with Tarte and feel that the quality of their items has gone downhill, which makes me hesitant about purchasing from them. The Rainforest of the Sea collection almost seemed like a “re-branding” of sorts, and this palette is definitely an improvement over their Amazonian clay shadows (which in my humble opinion are chalky and not very pigmented).
These shadows have a similar texture to Make Up For Ever Artist Shadows, where they have a “damp,” gel feeling to them, but not as damp as ColourPop shadows feel. The palette is a nice mix of warm and cool shades. My favorite is “Waves,” the taupe color on the top right that has a dent in it already in the photo above.
I really like how these shadows apply. They are very smooth and simply glide on the lid. They also last all day without creasing or flaking.
This is a fantastic palette for someone who needs a basic palette for their daily professional life. I don’t think you can go wrong when creating office appropriate looks with this one. I love that all of the colors are extremely wearable and something I will use; for example, there’s no matte black, which is a color I use.
The large mirror in this palette is also a major perk. I love when I can see my entire face in a palette, which sounds strange, but it’s just one of those things! 😛 The palette is also a nice size for travel.
The price point on this, in my opinion, is very reasonable. There are eight shades for $36. The colors include: Mermaid (gold), Seashell (pink), Wave (slate), Abyss (dark brown), Reef (copper), Starfish (bronze), Cove (tan), and Sand (ivory).
Overall, I am very pleased with this purchase and find myself reaching for this palette often. The first week I had it, I couldn’t put it down! It’s still in my vanity drawer too, so I am using it several times a week.
