This is not the first time the Kevyn Aucoin Eyeshadow Duo in Bloodroses is making an appearance here. I did a date night look and mentioned it in previous favorites, but this little duo deserves some recognition on its own. Needless to say, I am crazy about this eyeshadow (unfortunately it’s $42 a pop, but I purchased mine on Hautelook for much less).
There are two colors in this palette: Silvered Lilac on the left, and Bloodroses on the right. If you don’t know, “Blood Roses” is actually a song by Tori Amos (one of my FAVORITES), and she and Kevyn Aucoin were friends. She is featured in his book, Face Forward.
The texture of these shadows is similar to NARS. Don’t expect a silky silicone-based formula like so many shadows are doing today; instead, it is on the dry side. That isn’t to say they are not pigmented or easy to blend. Like NARS, these shadows have a LOT of pigment and are very easy to work with.
While I do love creamy eyeshadow formulas, dry formulas are easy to work with because they don’t blend away as quickly. Also, this duo can be used wet to intensity the colors; however, I think they are pretty intense on their own.
I’ve never tried anything less than luxurious from this brand, and hopefully in the future I’ll be able to get another one of these magnificent duos!
