There has been some serious hype about the Milk Makeup blur stick this winter. Not wanting to purchase the full size, I took advantage of getting a deluxe sample with a Sephora order. Since I’ve been using it for awhile, I have a few thoughts on it. Let me just start by saying that in short, I don’t think it is the most amazing primer the world has ever seen, but I don’t hate it either.
PRODUCT DESCRIPTION (From Sephora)
Blur Stick minimizes the appearance of pores and fine lines on every skin tone for an invisible, smooth, matte finish. Use it as a primer for a smooth finish and to lock in your makeup. This stick is free of silicone, and it will not clog pores.
Upon the first application, I was underwhelmed. I found it difficult to apply–it dragged instead of gliding onto my skin. My skin is pretty normal, so I was surprised by this. The product has a waxy texture and it tends to crumble a little as well. If you have dry patches, it will stick to them. With more uses, it was smoother to apply, so perhaps there was some sort of top layer getting in the way.
After the next several uses, the stick started to grow on me, but I felt that I had to put too much work into using it. It takes too much effort to apply (unlike the Estee Edit blurring stick that truly does glide on). The Milk Blur Stick does blur pores, but I don’t think it does anything particularly amazing that other primers don’t. I actually found that my skin felt very oily throughout the day while using this as a primer.
This blur stick does provide a smooth canvas for applying foundation, but it doesn’t go above and beyond other primers in that regard, nor when it comes to maintaining longevity.
Personally, I don’t think this stick is worth the hype for me. Maybe it’s my skin type or my age, but I won’t be shelling out the $36 for the full-size product.
Have you tried this? I would love to know your thoughts and how it worked for you!
