My dog, Quincy ❤
Hello! I can’t believe this is my first post in the month of June. I have been doing a lot of pondering about the direction of my small space on the Internet and where I want this blog to go in the future. This includes some challenges regarding beauty blogging specifically. I’m not really sure that writing about this has a purpose other than sorting out my own thoughts, but perhaps others are on the same page.
The next best thing
Although writing is something I do for fun, even when you are participating in a hobby, you want to see growth. In the beauty world, things are fast moving; new products are released constantly, and it’s a “next best thing” world. Personally, I can’t keep up with this and don’t necessarily want to. It is wasteful (to me) in more ways than one, which leads to my next point: the height of excess.
Throughout the years I have finely tuned what I like in makeup, skincare, and the beauty world in general. Through watching YouTube videos and considering things that I have personally passed on to others through the years, the amount of waste is extremely overwhelming to me. The thought of something sitting in a drawer rotting makes me anxious. If that is YOUR thing, that is fine by me, but it is not for me personally. This is something that makes blogging challenging. I want to be able to review and try new products, but I have to know they will be used regularly, although I know there are bound to be products I do not like.
Oh my, where do I begin with this one? I suppose I should start with the fact that every day is truly a blessing, and every birthday is a gift. I really believe this and I am not ashamed of my age at all, but I do believe that in general, the beauty world is marketed for and aimed at staying young/looking young at all costs. As someone in their mid-thirties, I do believe there is a place for my voice; however, I realize it isn’t the “popular vote” necessarily. 🙂 This doesn’t bother me per se, but at times it does cross my mind every once in awhile.
After wading through all of that, I do want to make it clear that I am still interested in writing about beauty and things that I find interesting and useful; however, it may not be the most cutting edge or current things. I have *thought* about including video content via YouTube but it is intimidating! Anyway, I would like to branch out content wise and be more creative. While I am not a makeup artist, I do believe that I am good at color combinations and enjoy creating different looks even if the techniques aren’t cutting edge. I want to make this space better and incorporate more, including jewelry, bags, and clothing/outfits.
Thank you for reading this long ramble if you have made it to the end! We’ll see where this leads, but I do know I want to stay here. 🙂
